Coaching

General

Athletes registered with Girraween Little Athletics and in under 7's or above are eligible for free coaching sessions provided at CV Kelly Park during the athletics season.

If you are serious about your athletics and want to do well at the representative carnivals and on Friday nights you need to start training early. To do well at these events you must train regularly.

Summer coaching commences on Monday and Wednesday nights from Monday 7 September 2015. Your child/children should arrive by 6.15pm with sufficient time to run at least two laps of the oval before warmup drills start at 6.30pm and coaching at 6.45pm. Coaching concludes at approximately 7.45pm. Late comers are still required to complete two laps but may have to do fitness training for the remainder of the first session.

There are two coaching sessions each night allowing children to receive coaching in two disciplines or to double-up.

Coaching is available in the following events:

  • sprints;
  • blocks training (sprints);
  • walks;
  • middle distance running;
  • long jump;
  • triple jump;
  • high jump (double session);
  • discus; and
  • shot put.

Coaching will not be available in every discipline on each night. It will be subject to a number of conditions including the availability of coaches, weather conditions and demand from attending athletes.

Athletes are NOT required to wear their GLAC uniform to coaching sessions but must wear suitable clothing.

For the safety of all athletes children are not to wear running spikes until instructed to place them on by the sprints coach.

A parent or guardian is required to be in attendance at the ground in case of poor weather, an early finish, the requirement of medical attention or discipline for their child. Children who attend without a parent or guardian may be excluded from coaching. The police may be called to attend to abandoned children.
